Rethinking the Details: Our Move to Corozo Buttons
We’re always looking for ways to reduce our impact on the planet and now, we’re taking another meaningful step forward.
As part of our commitment to more responsible design, we’re moving away from traditional plastic buttons and embracing Corozo buttons instead. Often referred to as “vegetable ivory,” Corozo is a natural, non-toxic material that offers both durability and a refined aesthetic. It’s resistant to fading, strong enough for everyday wear, and suitable for both washing and dry cleaning, making it a practical, sustainable choice.
Corozo is derived from the tagua tree, which grows in the rainforests of South America. The material comes from the seed of the tree, known as the “mococha.” Once harvested, these seeds are carefully dried, hardened, and crafted into buttons. This process not only makes use of a renewable resource, but also supports forest conservation, since preserving the trees becomes more valuable than cutting them down.
By choosing Corozo, we’re reducing reliance on petroleum-based plastics while supporting a more circular, nature-friendly approach to materials. It’s a small detail, but one that reflects a bigger shift in how we think about design, quality, and responsibility.
We believe Corozo buttons are the way forward, and just one of many steps we’re taking towards a more sustainable future.
