Fabrics

Polyester is no longer that cheap, synthetic fibre from the 70's - horrible and unbreathable! Who would have thought the day would dawn where the majority of tops sports men and women would be competing in 100% polyester? The secret to the success of performance polyester fabrics is moisture management and breathability.
Breathability refers to a fabrics ability to maintain the equilibrium between the moisture contained in the fabric itself and the air around it. Fabrics that are continually absorbing moisture and releasing moisture are more breathable than those that don't. Cotton absorbs 7% moisture, while polyester only absorbs 0.4%, which is why natural fabrics are great for every day life, but less successful in dealing with high levels of moisture. They hold onto moisture instead of releasing it back into the outside and away from the body.
The weave of performance polyester fabrics is key. Moisture is pulled into small holes in the weave, towards the outside of the fabric where it can evaporate, thus facilitating the cooling and drying process.
